Google Earth 5 ist da: Historische Karten, Ozean uvm.
Während ich noch im Flieger Richtung Deutschland saß, stellte Google bereits im Beisein zahlreicher Prominenz (u.a. Google Maps Direktor John Hanke, Al Gore, diverse Wissenschaftler) die neue Version 5 von Google Earth vor. Google Earth 5 ist die erste "final"-Version, schließlich verschwindet jetzt das "beta"-Label aus dem Produktnamen. Und dies wird auch Zeit. Mit der Version 5 startet u.a. Google Ocean. Das Meer ist nun nicht mehr eine monotone blaue Fläche, sondern es gibt (wo verfügbar) 3D-Daten des Meeresgrundes, Wellenanimationen und sehr umfangreiche Layer mit Informationen zu Expeditionen, zu Schiffswracks, Meeresschutzgebieten, Tierortung uvm.
Doch dass ist erst der Anfang. Version 5 bietet weiterhin den Mars in 3D, historisches Kartenmaterial vieler Regionen (wie hat sich z.B. die Innenstadt von Berlin in den letzten Jahren entwickelt?), die Möglichkeit, eigene Touren aufzuzeichen, die Funktionen aus dem bisher kostenpflichtigen Google Earth Plus, ein überarbeitetes Layout, uvm.
